  • Clenching or grinding, clinically known as bruxism, is common today with fast paced lifestyles. It can occur while you are asleep and sometimes you may not even be aware of it. It can cause irreversible damage to the jaw joint and cause structural problems with the teeth, and a night splint or occlusal splint can be made by a dentist to wear during sleep to protect your teeth.

  • Muscle relaxant injections in the jaw muscles are a proven treatment option for targeting and treating excessive muscle activity. Other treatments, such as anti-inflammatory medications and occlusal splints or night guards may not address the source of the issue.  Custom made occlusal splints are able protect teeth from damage at night for teeth grinders, but they may not fully stop the painful side effects  because some people continue to grind away at their splint.

By injecting small doses of Botulinum Toxin Type A muscle relaxant  directly into the masseter muscle (the large muscle that moves the jaw), the muscle is weakened enough to stop involuntary grinding of the teeth and clenching of the jaw. This relaxes the muscle and reduces the wear and tear on the teeth due to grinding and amage to the TMJ (temporomandibular joint) and headaches should be reduced or eliminated as well, while voluntary movements, such as chewing and facial expressions, are not affected.

Although muscle relaxant injections are not a cure for bruxism, they can effectively control the uncomfortable symptoms better than a night guard for some patients. Botox used for treating bruxism typically lasts for three to four months.

Protect teeth and joint jaws from the stresses and strains of teeth grinding and clenching

  • Custom made mouthguards are protective devices for contact sports and during training, that cover the teeth and gums to prevent and reduce injury to the teeth, jaws, lips and gums, that are made by your dentist and custom made in the laboratory, from impressions taken by your dentist, for the best and most comfortable fit.

Protect against trauma to the jaw, mouth and teeth

  • Periodontal care involves preventive care for periodontal disease, which is loss of the jaw bone from around the teeth, ranging from bleeding gums and inflammation, called gingivitis - to severe loss and infection of the gums and jaw bone, and loosening and loss of the teeth. Regular dental care at home with twice-daily tooth brushing and daily flossing, as well as regular visits to the dental team for active maintenance and professional scaling and cleaning each 6 months allows for optimal care and monitoring of your dental health.

  • Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment is a treatment, with a specialised filling that is placed through the middle of the tooth, to replace a missing pulp (nerve), when it has become infected, from decay, trauma or a crack, to try to save the tooth.

  • Our team connect with our smaller patients in a caring way, to make a child's visit an enjoyable and memorable experience.

Preventive care and dental checks each 6 months for children allow for optimal dental health and good habits for overall health and development.

  • Dentures are false teeth that can be removed from the mouth, and are made as a temporary requirement or a cost effective solution to replace multiple missing teeth, with a removable appliance that replaces the missing teeth and gum.

  • Wisdom teeth are a third set of molars that come up behind the 12 year old molars, at around the age of 17. They often become infected, especially if they are trapped in the jaw bone or gum, which dentists call impaction. When the gum around the wisdom tooth becomes inflamed, the gum becomes swollen, painful to bite on, and there can be intense pain from the area. They can be removed or a referral to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon can be organised, if they are in too difficult a spot.

  • A direct restoration means that the tooth can be restored in one visit and that there is enough tooth structure for the filling to go inside of the tooth. Amalgam is metal that is pushed into the tooth - which is not available at our practice due to environmental and health concerns - or composite resin; which is tooth coloured, and matched and bonded to the remaining tooth.

An indirect filling means that the restoration is made outside of the mouth, in the laboratory with master ceramists, which is precision bonded in to place by the dentist. Porcelain restorations have excellent aesthetics and durability, and are the best option to restore a tooth as perfectly as possible.

  • Technology and advances in dentistry allow for  efficient and quality service for any complexity of dental treatment. Digital x-rays, Trios Wireless scanning instead of imprints, ultrasonic composite resin placement, custom made and computer generated porcelain restorations for strength and durability, digital smile design with computer generation to restore a bite and smile perfectly, and further advances allow for appointments that easier to sit through with the best outcomes.

  • Tooth bonding is the use of a tooth coloured plastic adhesive called composite resin that is selected, shaped and polished to match in with the smile.

Teeth can be altered or changed to improve the appearance of individual teeth and the smile. This technique also allows damaged or chipped teeth to be repaired seamlessly, but can be fragile in certain spots in the mouth.
