Zoom Teeth Whitening at Brisbane Smile Boutique

There are many daily factors that contribute to the discolouration of our teeth; black tea, coffee and red wine to name a few. We have the technology available to almost erase the ageing look that yellowing teeth can give, in a fast and usually pain free way.  Clinical studies show that Zoom Teeth Whitening treatment results in an average improvement of 8+ shades whiter to refresh and renew your smile.

Before your teeth whitening appointment, a consultation allows you to have the answers to all your questions, and to ensure you are a suitable candidate for whitening. If you are interested in moving forward with the treatment, our dental professionals will examine your teeth and gums to ensure that they are healthy and ready for whitening at that time. During your teeth whitening appointment at Brisbane Smile Boutique the teeth whitening gel and blue light treatment work to whiten the teeth to their optimal brightness, while you relax and watch Netflix or listen to music.

PLEASE NOTE LIMITATIONS OF WHITENING AND REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS

  • PREVIOUS DENTAL WORK

Crowns, fillings, bonding and veneers will not whiten. If you have some past work on your front teeth or on the front of your smile, it may become noticeable after whitening. That is, your teeth will whiten, but the work you may have will not change colour.

  • GREYER TEETH

If your teeth are grey, they will be more difficult to whiten for all dental professionals, and may not become as white as you may wish.

  • OVER 40

If you are over the age of 40, it is unlikely that your teeth will whiten lighter than a shade B1 (see shade guide below and picture of gentleman below who is aged over 40 and who has had teeth lightened to a B1). Your teeth will lighten, and will be whiter, but they will most likely not be actual bright white, known as bleach white, unless you are under the age of 25. Natural tooth enamel has variations of colour, and the exact lightening can be estimated at your consult appointment, prior to whitening.

  • COMPARING NATURAL TOOTH STRUCTURE TO PORCELAIN VENEERS

If you are hoping for an extremely bright white, chances are you are comparing natural tooth colour to those people who have porcelain veneers. Natural tooth structure is rarely as white as porcelain veneers that are made in a bleach white shade, except in younger patients.

  • DENTINE EXPOSURE

Dentine or root surface exposure does not whiten, only tooth enamel whitens. If you have wear and tear along the gum line, or if the teeth are very yellow at the gum line, this is usually tooth wear, where the enamel is worn away. These areas may not whiten.

  • MAINTENANCE IS REQUIRED

Generally, the younger you are when you whiten, the easier the shade is to maintain. All whitening requires maintenance one or two years following your initial whitening treatment.

  • PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING

This treatment is not suitable for females who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

  • RISK OF TEMPORARY SENSITIVITY

Around 5% of people have sensitivity for the day of and the day after whitening their teeth. We recommend over the counter pain relief tablets for those who have very sensitive teeth in general.

  • WHITE DIET FOR 48 HOURS

It is important to have a white diet for 48 hours after whitening, that is, not eating anything highly coloured, such as curry, blue berries, cherries etc

HOW WHITE IS WHITE

Clinical studies indicate that teeth whitening has been able to achieve, on average, 8+ shades whiter. The results will vary as everyone's teeth respond a little differently, but in virtually all cases, the results are dramatic. Ultimately, the goal will be to achieve your optimum, natural whiteness. During your first consultation for teeth whitening, your dentist and dental hygienist will go over what you can expect for your teeth.

Some enhanced results may also be achieved when teeth whitening materials are additionally used at home over a week, or so. The degree of whiteness will vary from patient to patient, depending on the structure of the teeth, the brand of material that is used, the duration of time that the system is used and the way that the material or system is administered by your dental professional.

HOW LONG DO THE RESULTS LAST

MALE PATIENT IN 70’S

The long term results depend primarily on the individual. After in office teeth whitening the fresh, whiter appearance can last for years. Certain habits, such as smoking, drinking a lot of coffee, tea, soft drinks, and infrequent visits to the dentist for regular cleaning can work against the longevity of the result . Some people like to revisit the Zoom Whitening treatment at around the 2 to 3 year mark.

We provide a safe and effective way to dramatically whiten teeth with professional in office tooth whitening treatment.

TAKE HOME WHITENING KITS

Take-home Tooth Whitening Kits are another way of whitening your teeth. It can take around 10 - 14 days on average to achieve the desired result. The take-home kits are good to use in conjunction with the teeth whitening as a way to maintain your whiter smile for longer. Many of our patients like to do a refresh by wearing their whitening trays for around 2-3 days every six months or so, to keep it looking its absolute best. On their own, without an in office teeth Whitening treatment, whitening trays and the kit are $350.

WILL IT BE UNCOMFORTABLE

The majority of our patients experience no pain or sensitivity after in an office Teeth Whitening treatment. A very small percentage of patients may experience a minor and temporary dull "ache" following the procedure. Taking an over-the-counter analgesic, almost always resolves the feeling and we normally advise this before the appointment if your teeth are sensitive as well, to ensure you are comfortable. In moderate cases, our dental professionals can discuss options to assist in resolving sensitivity. It is best to avoid very hot or very cold drinks for the first 24 hours if there is any tooth sensitivity.

HOW DOES in office teeth whitening WORK

Your gums and mouth are protected with isolation materials, a starting shade is noted and a "before" picture is taken.

  1. The in office tooth whitening gel is professionally applied and activated by the light source and a computer code.

  2. After four 15-minute applications over a one to one and a half hour period, your tooth whitening is completed and your "after" picture is taken

IS IT SAFE?

white teeth Brisbane Dentist

The in office teeth whitening procedure will not soften enamel or existing fillings.  If any potential problems are detected, a recommendation is made to correct the problems before proceeding with Zoom. There is no whitening system available that will whiten fillings, veneers or crowns, as all whitening procedures work only on the natural tooth structure.

At home tray systems for whitening teeth with hydrogen peroxide gel under the supervision of a dentist has been shown to be safe for teeth and gums. Some patients have experienced increased tooth sensitivity and some temporary discomfort of their gums. These symptoms tend to disappear within 1-3 days after stopping the process. Usually after the sensitivity disappears the tooth whitening process can be started again and usually the sensitivity does not return. Over the counter quick bleaching kits may cause problems that you may be unaware of, such as irritation of the gums and surrounding soft tissues.

Overzealous use of over-the-counter home bleaching can wear away tooth enamel, especially due to the fact that these solutions have a very high acid content. When choosing to carry out these types of procedures they are best controlled by your dentist, who is trained in keeping teeth healthy and where your progress can be monitored carefully.
