Occlusal splint/night guard

An occlusal splint or night guard is a custom-made dental device made with 3D scanner technology, and used to treat a range of dental problems related to the bite and the jaw. It is a removable appliance that is typically worn on the upper or lower teeth, and is designed to protect the teeth from grinding or clenching, as well as to alleviate symptoms and pain from temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders and other conditions.

The occlusal splint is made of hard flexible plastic and is custom fit for the individual's teeth and bite. It works by helping to align the jaw and teeth in a more comfortable and relaxed position, which can reduce muscle tension and relieve pain and discomfort associated with TMJ disorders, teeth grinding, and other dental problems.

Occlusal splints are often prescribed by dentists as a treatment option for a range of conditions, including bruxism (teeth grinding), temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD), and sleep apnoea, with the splint being typically worn at night.

If you are experiencing symptoms of a dental problem related to the bite or the jaw, such as pain, clicking, or popping in the jaw joint, headaches, or worn teeth, talk to your dentist about whether an occlusal splint may be right for you. They can evaluate your condition and determine whether a splint or other treatment option is necessary to help you achieve optimal dental health and comfort.
