Dental Hygienist at Brisbane Smile Boutique Dentists

Do you know the role of a Dental Hygienist as a professional in a dental team?

Dental hygienists are professional and highly trained dental practitioners, with expertise in preventive dental health, focusing on techniques that ensure dental tissues and teeth are maintained and remain healthy in order to prevent dental disease, especially common chronic diseases such as tooth decay and gum disease.

Dental hygienists focus on disease prevention, through intervention and education, which is fundamental to the management of dental health, and are acknowledged experts in these areas by our dental professional and health service colleagues. The skills, knowledge and training of dental hygienists is extensive, including health sciences, human biology, special needs dentistry, oral health promotion and education, dental public health, preventive dentistry, community dentistry, minimal intervention, local anaesthesia and clinical practice.

Our team has had a dental hygienist for the past 20 years for the best delivery of quality dental health services, improving dental health and therefore also general health.

PREVENTIVE DENTAL CARE

Preventive dental care is the key to achieving a beautiful and healthy smile, which is why we have 1 hour bookings with our registered dental hygienist, Trina Do, who uses this time to professionally scale and clean your teeth. This involves the detection and gentle removal of all of the hardened plaque, the calculus, from around the roots of the teeth, and any stains that have built up, from the teeth.

Professional Scale and Clean

We are able to ensure that home care is optimal, and offer recommendations to help you maintain and improve your oral health. Our dental hygienist also takes digital x-rays and does all of our in house teeth whitening.

Throughout your life, your teeth and gums are susceptible to infections. Often these are bacterial in origin and can include gum disease, dental caries (cavities) and periodontal disease.  Some of these infections can give rise to severe infections and lead to tooth loss.

Our aim is to provide quality dentistry in a relaxed and caring environment, where our team will strive to provide the best possible service.

We schedule appointments for our patients for 6 months in advance, for preventive maintenance and care, to ensure that our patients have their teeth comprehensively cared for twice yearly, and so that they can reserve the time that is best suited to them.

What is involved in a dental hygiene appointment

A dental hygiene appointment will include a dental examination and the following:

Removal of calculus (tartar): Calculus is hardened plaque that has been left on the tooth for a period of time, which has firmly attached to the tooth surface, above and below the gum line, and can only be removed professionally.

Removal of plaque: Plaque is the sticky, almost invisible film that forms on the teeth, effectively a growing colony of living bacteria, dead bacterial cells, food debris, and saliva. The bacteria in our mouths produce toxins that cause the gums to react by becoming inflamed, which is gingivitis, and which may ultimately lead to periodontal disease and tooth loss.

Teeth polishing: Removal of staining from the teeth to naturally brighten your smile
